The largest Baltic resort-town Jūrmala is situated some 20 km from Rīga, on the coast of the Gulf of Rīga. Jūrmala is famous for its natural curative features mild climate, sea and salubrious air, medical mud and spa water. The resort has a unique 32 km long golden sandy beach, vast pine forests and a blue natural border the Lielupe River. Wooden summer cottages, built in the beginning of the last century, richly decorated with carvings successfully co-exist with the more recent buildings of spas. Numerous hotels and spa-hotels offer recreation and spa-cure in Jūrmala today.

Active holiday-makers can spend their time on tennis courts, in fitness halls, try yachts or water motorcycles, play bowling and go horseback riding. Gourmands are welcome to cosy restaurants and bars, but in order to satisfy the soul, one can visit art exhibitions, local amusements and concerts.

In 30 minutes You can easily come from Riga to Jūmala by electric train or a comfortable minibus, but in summer also by a river-boat (2 hours).

Since the year of 1997 Jūrmala has joined THE BLUE FLAG BEACH campaign organized by the FEEE.

The EU Blue Flag is awarded to the beaches of Majori, acknowledging high quality of the swimming waters, security, First Aid and good service.
